How Common is Interracial Dating and Marriages in the USA?
According to statistics issued by the US Census Bureau and American
Community Survey Data, fewer than 200,000 whites are involved in Interracial Marriages every year. It has been established that out of the 2,096,000 marriages in the United States in 2010, about 275,500 were Interracial, with 192,850 involving white partners.
The study also found out that 8.4 percent of all marriages in the United States of America are interracial. It is also worth mentioning that only 3.2 percent of all marriages in the USA were interracial in 1980. The stats also reveal that 2.1 percent of all married white women had a non – white spouse while 2.3 percent of all married white men chose a companion classified as non – white.
White men married to Asian American woman constituted about 1 percent of all the marriages in the country. On the other hand, 1 percent of married white women were married to men classified under the ‘other’ category. According to stats, white men are less likely to marry outside their race. However, the rise in the number of while men who prefer to date a person of a different race, is certainly a positive trend.
So, what has led Native White Americans to do something out of the box by choosing a partner belonging to a different racial and cultural background? Here are a few factors that experts believe to have contributed to this paradigm shift:
